As we welcome 2015, we are reflecting back on our 18 classes in 30 days contest STARS! All you participants ROCK!

Thanks to the huge number of participants, Surya’s studios were packed with determined and energetic yogis all throughout November. Some yogi’s like Neil Shah, Jordana Zirpolo and Patty Lin completed 26!

Kerri Martin from Surya Jersey City
Participating in her second 18 in 30 challenge of the year, Kerri made the time commitment to improve her practice-- and can’t wait for the next one, saying “My vote is for a challenge in early 2015, kick off the year right!”


What made you sign up for this past 18 in 30 challenge?
To improve my overall practice and to motivate me to have a regular practice.

How did you start to feel physically towards the end of the challenge?
Energized! I love being able to spend so much time at the studio, especially on the days I can do 2 classes a day :)

Have you noticed an improvement in your yoga practice after completing the challenge?
Yes! I was able to start doing some of the headstands I hadn't been able to accomplish before the challenge which was pretty amazing.


Caitlin Long from Surya Hoboken
After a distraction-filled summer, Caitlin wanted to get back into a workout routine she could commit to and signed up for her first 18 in 30 challenge.

How did you start to feel physically towards the end of the challenge?
I felt more energized, especially since I was typically taking the 6am classes, I also started feeling myself getting stronger.

What was the most difficult part of the challenge?
The most difficult part of the challenge was the time commitment. I was traveling a lot for work in November, 12 days total out of the 30, so I had to make sure that every day I was home that I made time to attend a class.

Have you noticed an improvement in your yoga practice after completing the challenge?
I have felt myself getting better with certain poses, and becoming more daring in certain ones-- like attempting to do the crow pose.


Christine Hrycenko from Surya Summit
Signing up for her first 18 in 30 challenge, Christine wanted to make a greater commitment to her yoga practice-- no matter how busy her daily schedule was.

What made you sign up for this past 18 in 30 challenge?
I wanted to tone up and needed motivation to stick to some kind of fitness plan, so my sister and I both signed up, which kept us accountable to each other.

How did you start to feel physically towards the end of the challenge?
Although I felt sore in the beginning of the challenge, after only a few classes I began to feel great. I had more energy and wanted to take a class every day. By the end of the challenge I definitely noticed that I was starting to firm up.

Have you noticed an improvement in your yoga practice after completing the challenge? Yes! Since I never practiced consistently, I had a lot to work on, but I definitely noticed that my practice has improved. The more I practice, the more I learn and the more I'm able to push myself and improve.

Would you recommend other yogis to try and complete the challenge?
Absolutely--especially for people like myself who aren't consistently practicing and maybe need a little push to get on track.
